C-17 Encoding Test Set
Description The Disan P/N 189--- remote test unit (Proprietary) permits an operator to connect the to the encoding altimeter and digital air speed indicator to check the calibration of the on-board system. This test is necessary to confirm the accuracy of the data automatically sent by the plane instruments responding to radar interrogation. The cables are long enough to permit the operator to alter the inputs to the system (pressure, etc) to simulate various altitudes and air speed. The test set can be set to distinct air speeds, rate of climb, and altitudes and the on-board systems can be checked for accuracy. This system is used throughout the Air Force inventory and specifically used on: C-141, C-17A, etc.
